London Victoria is more than just a major transport hub in the centre of the British capital city; it is a gateway to some of the city’s most famous sights. Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Chelsea and Hyde Park are all within less than a mile of Victoria. That makes the region popular with tourists and commuters, and catering to them is a slew of hostels.
Some hostels around Victoria are good, some are poor. We turn to the former to make up this list to provide you with a keener sense of how you can make your stay special while still keeping it cheap. Facilities, hostel atmosphere, breakfast provision and location are all key considerations, among others, when bringing you our list of the top five hostels around London Victoria.
Astor Victoria Hostel
Dorms from £21/ night
The Astor is a good-sized hostel with plenty of neat communal facilities like a shared living room and kitchen area. Rooms are basic but clean and when coupled with the excellent central location this hostel poses great value for money. Breakfast is not included in the price but can be bought for a small additional fee. Free wifi is available throughout the hostel and vending machines near the 24 hour front desk sell snacks. A laundry service is also available for an additional fee.
The Walrus Bar and Hostel
Dorms from £24/ night. Privates from £80/ night
The Walrus certainly has one of the most fun names in London and the great reviews suggest there is substance behind the façade. Most guests note the location is hard to beat, and the hostel and staff have even picked up a few tourism awards in recent years. A great atmosphere, and wifi, breakfast and early arrival luggage storage are all included in the price. The bar is downstairs and is a popular place to meet other travellers. As such though, this hostel best suits guests who are interested in London’s nightlife. Although there are a couple of smaller dorms for between four and eight people, the lowest priced belongs to a behemoth 22 bed dorm. Bring your ear plugs.
The Horse & Stables
Dorms from £18/ night. Privates from £79/ night
The Horse & Stables is in a quieter, albeit not quite as central, location as sister hostel The Walrus. The Horse is the bar; The Stables are the sleeping quarters. Set in a charming, airy old building, parts of which date back to the 19th Century, The Horse and Stables have a great atmosphere. Dorms hold between six and 12 people and are quite basic, but the price also includes breakfast, which makes the beds seem like pretty good value.
SoHostel
Dorms from £22/ night. Privates from £74/ night
A great value option in central London, and less than a mile from Victoria train and coach stations, Sohostel has a number of private rooms besides its dormitories. There are bars, theatres and restaurants all around the hostel, which also has its own bar and TV lounge. A communal lounge is a great place to post up and meet fellow travellers, as well as the terrace during fine weather. Rooms are comfy, yet basic and the smaller four bed dorms have their own bathroom.
Hostel PubLove @ The White Ferry
Dorms from £12/ night
A great budget option given that there is a continental breakfast included in the price, the trade-off for such great prices at Hostel PubLove is the size of the dorms. The smallest dorm holds three beds, but the rest of the dorms (where you’ll really save some money) hold between nine and 24 people, often in triple tier bunks. It might be wise to invest in some ear plugs. Communal space is limited but The White Ferry is a pub linked to the hostel where you can buy an excellent burger.
