The UNESCO-listed streets of Malaysia’s Penang Island are perfect for exploring on foot, but if you’re planning to explore beyond this bustling district then picking up a rental car before you leave the airport might make a lot of sense.
The majority of the rental agencies at Penang Airport can be found at the main airport terminal itself, while the remainder are located a short distance away and can be reached via a meet-and-greet shuttle service put on by the individual agencies. If you’re flying into Penang and would like to hire a car from the airport, we’ve done some research so you don’t have to and picked out two rental companies we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
Avis
Avis are our favourite rental car agency at Penang Airport, owing largely to their sizeable mix of vehicles ranging from medium-sized cars through to SUVs.. Among the notable deals we found during our online search were a 5-seater Proton Persona priced at $281 per week, a slightly larger Honda City costing $400 per week and a Proton X70 SUV for $647 per week. The Avis offices at Penang Airport can be found directly inside the terminal and are open 7.30am to 9.30pm every day of the week.
For the best rates, we recommend booking at Rentalcars.com
Kasina
There are also a number of local and regional car hire providers with operations in Penang and one of those located at the airport is Kasina. Among their airport fleet are a total of eight cars for hire, with prices starting at $319 for a 5-seater Proton Saga and rising to $582 per week for a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck. The Kasina car rental counter is located in the main terminal at the arrival hall floor and is open from 8am to 9pm throughout the week.
