Milan is the most expensive European city for hotel rooms in 2015, a new survey by TravelMag.com reveals. Comparing rates across 40 popular European cities, the survey placed Italy’s fashion capital at the top of the rankings.
The results were amassed by comparing prices for double rooms across September – the most popular month for hotels in Europe. Only hotels located in city centres, rated three stars or more and with a high number of positive guest reviews were included in the survey.
Visitors to Milan during September had to pay an average of €135 euros per night for the most affordable double room. Speaking about the results, Paul Joseph from TravelMag.com said that the city’s hosting of Expo 2015, currently running in Milan until the end of October, is a major cause of the high rates.
Second in the ranking is the Swedish capital of Stockholm, where average prices during September came in at €133 euros. Munich in Germany was the third most expensive city – partly due to the annual Oktoberfest event, which begins in mid-September – where hotel guests paid an average of €127 euros for the cheapest double room.
The table below compares 40 city destinations in Europe for September 2015. The prices displayed reflect the average rate for each city’s least expensive available double room (minimum 3 stars) for the period of September 1st through to September 30th 2015.
