Apartments available for daily, weekly or monthly rentals typically come with kitchen facilities and are particularly popular with city breakers and business travellers alike who want the comfort and convenience of a ‘home away from home’ while avoiding long-term tie-ins. There are a wide choice of short-stay apartments in New York, meaning you’ll always be sure to find one that suits your requirements. With Airbnb continuing to dominate the short-let market, it can be a challenge to shop elsewhere, but we’ve dug deep and selected four of our favourite alternative online options.
Booking.com
Booking.com are our top choice for short-stay apartments in New York for anything from a few days to a few weeks. The travel search engine is one of the world’s biggest and most reputable aggregator platforms, and although it is primarily a hotel booking website it also has a vast apartment section too. When we searched for short-stay options, around 430 apartments were available, starting at around $70 per night. Searching is simple too – all you need is to select for ‘apartments’ on the filter section on the left hand page and your search will be narrowed down to available apartments for your specified dates. Booking.com also offer a Best Price Guarantee as well as a dedicated reviews section.
Blueground
Founded in 2013, Blueground offer fully-furnished apartments with flexible leases for stays of one month or longer. Unlike Booking.com, stays of more than a month come with significant savings, as the longer your stay the cheaper the rates become. In New York the company list over 600 apartments in some of the city’s most desirable districts, and when we conducted a search, we found prices from $2,790 per month for a studio apartment in the financial district. Their professionally-managed, turnkey properties include everything from studios to one and two-bed apartments. The online booking process is easy and there’s also a 24-hour support service accessed via a guest app.
Homelike
Homelike is principally aimed at business travellers other overseas visitors looking for accommodation for a month or longer. The platform has a clean and easy-to-use interface with high resolution photography and icons that clearly show amenities on offer. Since its launch, the platform has come a long way and in New York has over 1,000 apartments for rent, including 111 private rooms for people seeking a flat-sharing arrangement. On our chosen dates, we found options dotted across NYC starting at $3,669 per month for a studio apartment in the Kips Bay neighbourhood on the east side of New York. If you don’t mind being outside Manhattan, you can also rent apartments in certain districts that are twice the size for roughly the same price.
June Homes
Founded in 2017 with the mission of reinventing and simplifying the antiquated housing experience for the new generation of renters, June Homes have rapidly carved out a strong reputation in the mid to long-term rentals sector. They work with owners and managers of single-family and multi-family homes spanning studios, multi-bedrooms, multiple units, and entire buildings. One of their main USPs is that clients can choose to rent furnished or unfurnished and rent a whole apartment or only a room of their choice. The company can also match you with other roommates, and offer a variety of add-on services, plus a dedicated 24/7 support team. In NYC, they have over 1,1000 properties listed, with rates starting at $2,025 per month for a studio apartment in the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Sunset Park. For cheaper options, there are also several flat shares.
