Dunedin is often a popular gateway to the stunning natural wonder of Otago Peninsula nearby. The vibrant student city itself has plenty to offer with its unique blend of Maori and Scottish heritage. That results in there being a wealth of choice in hotels, which can be a little overwhelming or time consuming.
Here at TravelMag.com we adore the process of planning trips, and hope to make your planning just a little easier by offering our list of the top five hotels in Dunedin to you. This is based on a number of factors such as location, price and amenities on offer to guests.
BLUESTONE ON GEORGE
From $128/ night
By far the people’s favourite, consistently receiving top reviews, Bluestone on George is certainly doing something right. The rooms are soundproofed and the en-suite bathrooms all have under floor heating. Some rooms have spa baths and all studios and apartments have their own kitchenette. The property also has a fitness studio, is located next to Otago Museum and the area has plenty of restaurants, sights and shopping options not far from the front door.
HIGHBRAE GUESTHOUSE
From $79/ night
Much of Highbrae’s charm comes from its modesty and the lovely views of city and ocean from the property. Dunedin centre is 5 minutes’ drive away, which is certainly easy enough to walk, at least on the way down. Free breakfast is provided to guests in this rather historic property, which was built in 1908. All rooms have flat-screen television, free wifi, electric blankets and seating area. Bathrooms are shared for most rooms.
LARNACH LODGE
From $105/ night
Fancy staying in the grounds of a castle? Well at Larnach Lodge you can. Found beside Larnach Castle, which lies roughly 9 miles from Dunedin, some rooms are in the lodge, whilst others are inside an historic converted stable. Rooms in the stable share a bathroom, but all rooms provide towels, a kettle and television. Included in the room price are breakfast and entry to the castle; the beautiful building completed in 1874 is open to the public, and is rumoured to be haunted.
