A Comparison of Direct Flights from NYC to Dubai

by Allie d'Almo  |  Published January 6, 2023

For years, the only way to travel between the Big Apple and the UAE’s most fashionable emirate was via a lengthy connecting flight. Thankfully, it’s now possible to travel between the two blockbuster destinations directly in less than 13 hours.

Direct flights depart daily from New York to Dubai. Most flights depart from John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in NYC and arrive at Dubai International Airport (DXB). However, from March 2023, passengers will also be able to pick up a direct flight from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). For the cheapest flights, consider travelling in March. The most expensive time to travel to Dubai is in December. If you’re considering travelling between the two destinations, we’ve analysed the best direct flight options between NYC and Dubai, taking into consideration prices, departure times, onboard facilities and amenities. There are dozens of indirect flights to choose from too, but we’ve decided to omit these from our analysis given the environmental impact of take-off and landing.

Emirates Airlines

Emirates Airlines is the only airline that offers a direct flight to Dubai from New York’s most centrally located airport – JFK. Flights average 12 hours and 25 minutes and depart twice per day, at 11 am and 10.20 pm. The lowest return ticket price we found online is $710. Passengers can choose from Economy, Business and First Class. Unlike many airlines, the cheapest ticket includes two 50 lb pieces of luggage, as well as one cabin bag. Seats are spacious and tickets include a complimentary meal, access to the award-winning ICE inflight entertainment system and a sustainable amenity kit. First class aboard the A380 is billed as the ‘closest it comes to flying in a private jet’. Cabin features include private suites, gourmet meals and access to the shower spa.

Emirates Airlines is widely regarded as one of the best airlines in the world and was this year awarded third place in the annual Skytrax World’s Best Airlines Awards. Most routes offer WiFi internet service, with the first 10MB free. If you’re travelling with children, Emirates Airline also offers complimentary services such as free prams for the airport, kids’ meals and baby food, and hundreds of kids’ movies and entertainment channels.

From 27 March 2023, United Airlines will offer direct services from Newark International Airport to Dubai. The new route will fly daily using a Boeing 777-300ER, with codeshare opportunities on Emirates’ US-bound flights from November. Prices are roughly in line with Emirates Airlines, though costs can add up quickly if you need to add additional checked baggage, seat selection and change fees. The airline currently offers four tickets: Basic Economy, Economy, Premium Economy and Business. The cheapest ticket includes one checked bag and a meal.

Onboard, passengers in economy class can enjoy access to a variety of inflight amenities, including a complimentary meal and inflight entertainment. The airline lacks some of the thoughtful touches offered by Emirates, such as amenities bags and low-sodium menus. While luxury travellers might bemoan the lack of first-class seating, the all-new United Polaris does offer an elevated flight experience, complete with Saks Fifth Avenue Bedding and premium skincare.
