The county of Yorkshire is teeming with beautiful countryside, but if you’re planning a trip to one of its famous cities, you may prefer to find a hotel close to amenities and urban attractions. Fans of medieval architecture will enjoy the proximity of Sheffield Cathedral to the 3-star Hampton by Hilton Sheffield Hotel. Just a few minutes’ walk from the impressive edifice, it makes for an ideal spot for a morning stroll. As for the hotel itself, its guest rooms have a flat screen TV, telephone, desk, safe and tea and coffee-making facilities, as well as en suite bathroom with shower and complimentary toiletries. Amenities to be found around the hotel include a hot and cold buffet breakfast served each morning, a 24-hour bar serving drinks and snacks, free WiFi, a fitness centre and on-site parking. Foodies will also appreciate the American-Italian restaurant next door, owned by celebrity British chef Marco Pierre White.
Novotel Sheffield Centre

An excellent upscale option is the 4-star Novotel Sheffield Centre, which features impressive facilities including a swimming pool, a restaurant serving international cuisine, a stylish bar offering fine world wines and light snacks, and 24-hour room service. Guest rooms have an interactive flat-screen TV with internet access, as well as a work desk, tea/coffee making facilities, free WiFI and a private modern bathroom. For those arriving by car, limited on-site parking is available. Sheffield Cathedral and Sheffield Railway Station are both within a 10-minute walk away.
Leopold Hotel

Another high-end choice is the 4-star Leopold, housed in a historic 1800 building and nestled in the heart of the city centre where it is surrounded by shops, restaurants, bars and theatres. Each well-appointed guest room has an iPod dock, flat-screen TV, safe and mini fridge and free WiFi , while some of the bathrooms in the superior rooms and suites provide bathrooms and slippers. Elsewhere in the hotel, there’s a modern dining room and a bar with a terrace overlooking an attractive square.
ibis Sheffield Centre

Situated next door to the Ponds Forge leisure complex, a rainy day (and you do get a few in Yorkshire) needn’t be a barrier to fun and entertainment if you’re staying at the 2-star ibis Sheffield Centre. The hotel, too, has some excellent amenities, including a modern and spacious restaurant and 24-hour snack bar, while there’s also an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet available daily. Guestrooms each have a work desk and internet access, as well as a private modern bathroom and a radio, and tea/coffee facilities. Parking is available next to the hotel.
Holiday Inn Express Sheffield City Centre

Guests staying at the 3-star Holiday Inn Express can peer out from the hotel onto the scenic River Don and enjoy a natural beauty spot in the heart of Sheffield’s city centre. But if you prefer to ensconce yourself in your modern room, you can make use of a flat-screen satellite TV with pay-per-view movies, free WiFi, a seating area and tea/coffee making facilities.
