Widely considered the finest example of Catalan modernism anywhere in Barcelona, Casa Amatller attracts large numbers of visitors every year.
Built by renowned Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch on the city’s bustling Passeig de Gràcia thoroughfare at the tail end of the 19th century, the eye-catching building was originally the residence for wealthy chocolatier Antoni Amatller. In 2014, following an extensive renovation, it opened to the public and rapidly became a popular tourist attraction as the home of Catalan modernism as well as housing a prestigious History of Art Institute. To visit Casa Amatller and the institute, you can either buy standard admission tickets or book on to a guided tour that takes in other city attractions along the way. Here’s our breakdown of the two best options – and where to book them.
