Apulian agriturismos are often synonymous with masserie, the name rural estates take across different areas of Southern Italy. Tastefully restored, these historic farmsteads feature white stone as their defining element, against which olive trees and patches of barren land create charming compositions. Other agriturismos will be housed in more modern estates, offering their guests an intimate encounter with the local hospitality and farming culture. Here are 10 of the best agriturismos in Puglia.

Costarella

Barnyards, olive trees and vegetable gardens meet fair Lecce stone at Agriturismo Costarella. This is a typical example of a renovated Apulian masseria, where rural relaxation is coupled with poolside aperitivos and massage therapy at the small spa. The rooms and communal areas are housed in the old stables, oven room and other spaces of the original building. Six studios and a double room are available, and the entire agriturismo can be reserved for up to 14 guests. Olive oil, legumes, wine and typical friselle (dry bagel-shaped bread) are produced in-house. The nearest beach is 5 kilometres away. From 87
