Safe, ultra-modern, pristinely-maintained and dotted with iconic buildings, it’s easy to see the appeal of this glistening island country in Southeast Asia. Together with the more transient tourists who come here, Singapore is also known for its huge ex-pat community. And while some choose to lay down roots during their stay, others prefer a more temporary living arrangement, which in part explains the glut of upscale hotels . We’ve picked out some of the best to have opened over the past year.

Hotel Faber Park

Part of the Accor Group’s prestigious Handwritten Collection, Hotel Faber Park opened its doors in October 2003 to great fanfare – and for good reason. Located in the scenic environs of Mount Faber Peak, the only hilltop destination in Singapore, the 4-star hotel combines a prime setting with sublime views across the city. The on-site amenities aren’t to be sniffed at either, including among them a restaurant, a swanky bar and an outdoor swimming pool. Guest rooms are as contemporary as you’d expect and are equipped with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and a private bathroom. For nearby attractions, the Singapore Cable Car, offering picturesque rides between Mount Faber, HarbourFront and Sentosa Island, is a short drive away. From $134 per night.
