You might not expect the fourth-most populated city in Wyoming to be a symbol of cultural difference. And yet it is:
Rock Springs has been dubbed the Home of 56 Nationalities, given the diversity and volume of immigrants who worked in
its coal mines when the Union Pacific Railroad was being built. International Day is celebrated annually with a host of
different cultural events. (The 2017 celebration featured Polish folk dancing, Taiko drumming and over 20 imported
beers.) Beyond culture, there are plenty of natural offerings, like Fossil Butte National Monument (perfect for hikers)
and White Mountain. It seems to be most attractive to travelers during the summer months.
Planning to visit Rock Springs? Lodging here isn’t too expensive and we’ve selected three charming properties for you to check out. We’ve made our picks based on proximity to the city center and past customer rating. We priced the hotels by comparing rates for a three-night stay across several weeks.
scores from past guests. Outfitted with free wifi and a convenience mart, this property is also suitable
for golfers — it’s only five miles from the White Mountain Golf Course. When you leave the green to
retire to your room, you’ll find a flatscreen TV, kitchenette and —best of all—mountain view. Guests can
indulge more nature outside in the garden, or grill some protein to accompany the natural beauty at the
provided barbecue facilities. Care to mingle or chat with other travelers? There’s a lounge for that,
too.
This Baymont Inn had slightly lower ratings than our other two picks —but it’s also exceedingly cheap,
with prices regularly falling under $75/night for a three-night stay. It’s ideal if you’re traveling to
the Rock Springs Recreation Center, which is only a mile away. Despite the price, there are plenty of
goodies included: free wifi, premium channels on each room’s TV, and nighttime snacks in addition to
daily continental breakfast. And if you really want to take advantage of this deal, try the outdoor
swimming pool, gym or (the admittedly less exciting) launderette. Looking for some grub nearby? Bitter
Creek Brewery and Coyote Creek Steakhouse are within four miles of the property.
This three-star option was generally more expensive than the other ‘cheap’ properties we examined in
Rock Springs. Thankfully, it might compensate by providing guests with a slightly campy cowboy
aesthetic. Pictures of cowboys and horses dominate the decor, adding hints of the saloon to the
aesthetic. But there’s more to enjoy about this hotel than what one guest called “cowboy chic.” It
features free airport shuttles, a gym and indoor pool, and HBO on the in-room TVs. Breakfast is
available, and on-site restaurant called Open Range should complete the cowboy experience this hotel
seeks to offer.
