Recently named in the top 52 places to visit on the US, Nashville, the capital of Tennessee, has a vibrant eating and drinking scene, and a plethora of one-of-a-kind shops and music venues.

When it comes to car rental companies in Nashville, Avis, Hertz and Budget are among the best. While there are other good car rental companies in the market, these are generally considered amongst the most reliable. Besides, all of them have branches in the downtown area. With this in mind, TravelMag has carefully compared these three companies based on overall value for money, conditions of cars, wait times and customer feedback.

Budget – North First Street

Your choice of car often boils down to what you feel most comfortable in. While some renters might be perfectly happy with a compact, run-around, others will feel safer in a mid-size vehicle or even something bigger like an SUV. Budget manages to straddle all these categories with a robust selection of vehicles, offering the Ford Focus as its cheapest option and roomier cars like the Buick Verano and Ford Escape in the mid size/SUV category. These cars were being rented out a $70 per day in early September. Open Monday to Friday 7.30am-5pm and Saturday 8am to 12pm

Avis – Church Street

Located on a major thoroughfare in the centre of downtown Nashville, Avis’s office couldn’t be easier to find. Moreover, while other branches are often shut on Sundays, this Avis branch remains open till midday. In the car park, they have the Toyota Corolla at $57 per day in the most economic category while towards the top of their range, they rent out the Ford Edge and Chrysler 300. In between these sets of cars, they have the Volkswagen Jetta and the Toyota Rav4. Both these vehicles are rented out at $65-80 per day. Open Monday to Friday 7.30am-5pm and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 12pm

Hertz – Nashville Metro Airport (Terminal 1)

When it comes down to sheer size and variety of cars for rent, many people think of Hertz. And although Hertz isn’t always the cheapest car rental company in the market, their prices do get considerably cheaper with coupons and promotions and for members of AAA (American Automobile Association) who benefit from free add-ons (car seats etc) and up to 20% off advertised prices. Located in terminal one of the international airport (8 miles east of downtown Nashville), Hertz has EVs, compact cars, sedans, SUVs and even the odd pick-up truck. On the days we researched in early September, you could drive off with a Tesla Model 3 for under $80 per day with taxes included. Open Monday to Sunday 6am-12am
