Car Rental at Frankfurt Airport: The Best Companies

by Mark Rebindaine  |  Published February 14, 2023

Catering for over 60 million passengers each year, Germany’s largest airport, Frankfurt Airport (FRA), is split across 2 terminals on more than 25,000 hectares. Despite its size, FRA is extremely well signalled and therefore, it’s relatively easy to get from A to B.
As to be expected at such a large airport, there’s a wide selection of rental cars on offer here. The vast majority of them are in the concourse A on Level 0 in Terminal 1, and concourse D on Level 2 in Terminal 2.

Deciding which of the rental car company has the genuinely best deal can be a tough task. As a result, TravelMag.com has carefully researched prices, availability, policies and customer reviews of the 12 car rental companies operating out of FRA. Here are our findings:

Most Affordable: OK Mobility

The company’s name might not be the most inspiring, however, OK Mobility is hard to beat at Frankfurt Airport. Indeed, OK’s most economical models are considerably cheaper than most of the competition with prices as much as €20 less on the same model. Choosing an option like the Fiat 500 or the Volkswagen Polo from their fleet is the best bet for someone looking to get around as cheaply as possible. Some reviewers have experienced slow pick up times, however, in the two most important categories; value for money and condition of the car, OK scores extremely well. The fact that these cars can be rented out at a relatively cheap price certainly helps to ease any pain caused by waiting a few extra minutes. For larger groups, they also rent out the BMWX1 and the Volkswagen T-Cross.

Best for Luxury: Alamo

Hertz’s fleet at Frankfurt Airport truly impresses; it’s little surprise to see it ranking at the top on the go-to rental car website, rentalcar.com. Unlike its competitors, Hertz scores highly across the board, from the car’s cleanliness to the time it takes to pick up the car. Moreover, it has some excellent options with vehicles like the Citroen DS7 and the Volkswagen Tiguan in its fleet. Booking with Hertz carries many advantages at any level, however, if you’re a regular car rental user, you should join up to Hertz Gold Plus Rewards which is free to join and offers some great benefits. With accrued points you can redeem on future rentals and obtain preferential rates on one-way rentals, luxury vehicles from the Prestige and Green collections.

Best for Minivans: Hertz

Alamo, and its parent company Enterprise, are the top choices for families planning holidays in Frankfurt due to the sheer size of their fleets and their competitive pricing. That means that families can go as big or as small as they want when selecting cars to suit the number of passengers they’re traveling with. Families traveling with just a couple of kids may want to choose the 7-seater Ford Galaxy while roomier options like the Ford Tourneo are perfect for larger families. Like the majority of the international rental car companies, both Alamo and Enterprise allow customers to add on extras like baby seats and child seats as well luggage racks if families are traveling with lots of gear.
