Guernsey Airport (GCI) is the island’s main international airport, serving multiple destinations in the British Isles and several European destinations. It’s located in the parish of Forest, about 2.5 miles southwest of the island’s capital, St. Peter Port.

In an island with relatively poor public transport and with multiple attractions, renting a car is definitely the best way to get around. At present, there are only three hire car companies operating at the airport. The vehicles are located within a very short walking distance from the terminal.
To determine which rental car companies offer the best vehicles across our three categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury, Best for Minivans), Travelmag.com has carefully researched the prices, availability, policies and customer reviews of the car rental companies operating out of GCI airport. Here are our findings.
Most Affordable: Hertz & Europcar
If you’re researching through popular car rental site, rental-cars.com, Hertz consistently has the best offers on cheap car rentals. On our sample dates, their cheapest car, the Ford Fies-ta, was being rented out at an economical €33 per day – a car that gives further value for money by returning 56 miles per gallon. Featuring the popular Renault Twingo and the Darcia Sendero, Europcar has a better selection of vehicles than Hertz, but on our chosen dates, prices were slightly more expensive. However, it’s worth noting, Europcar do have some exceptional offers at the moment; offering 25% off their online bookings and waiving the £1,000 excess if you paid an extra £10.00 per day. At the time of writing this article, the Europcar desks inside the airport are open from 7.30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Best for luxury: Europcar
With just three car rental agencies operating at Guernsey airport, the selection of luxury cars is somewhat limited. As with our most affordable category, we found Europcar to have the best selection of cars with the Mercedes SLK being the pick of the bunch. One of the most popular open top cars on the market, it will give you wonderful views of the island’s extraordinary scenery. For a more conventional drive, Europcar also rents out the Vauxhall Corsa automatic with the latest model due in on the 6th March 2020.
Best for Minivans: Europcar
As such, there are no minivans for offer at Guernsey airport, however, if you are a large family or group of seven or less, then Europcar rent out the VW Caddy. With ‘proper’ (not lift up) seats for seven passengers, the VW caddy manages to be both practical and comfortable, providing a high level of interior design together with a generous and easy loading luggage area. If you’re still not convinced, Europcar has a solid reputation and is known for the way it consistently delivers clean, well-maintained vehicles.
