Lanzarote’s airport (ACE) is located in San Bartolomé, 5km southwest of the island’s capital, Arrecife. In total, there are eleven car rental companies to choose from but unless you’re in the industry, you’ll probably only ever have heard of half of them. So selecting the right one can be tricky.
From the major car rental companies at the airport (Avis, Budget, Payless, Europcar and Hertz) TravelMag.com has taken a look at factors like daily rates, fleet availability, customer satisfaction and extra perks when determining which car hire companies are the best options for visitors of Lanzarote.
Most Affordable: Avis
Avis is a particularly sure bet for travellers looking for budget-friendly rental cars at ACE Airport. Avis has a great variety of compact and intermediate vehicles that are ideal for single travellers, couples or small travel parties. Travellers looking for ultra-affordable rental vehicles can opt for the Citroen C1 or the popular C3, a slightly smaller version of the C4 Cactus. For those who favour Asian reliability and technology, Avis also offers good rates on the Hyundai i10 and i20. Prices in high-season start at approximately €55 per day.
It’s worth noting that all rental car companies listed at Rentalcars.com are trustworthy, so it’s quite safe to just pick the lowest rental for your dates. However, we would recommend that you stick with a company that is located at the airport terminal of ACE Airport.
Best for Luxury: Sixt
Throughout the world, Sixt is one of the best options for renting premium cars. At ACE Airport, their offer is tailor-made to the needs of the market, so as well as sedans, sports cars, convertibles and SUVs, they offer small, breezy vehicles which are perfect for enjoying the beautiful views and gentle breezes of the island. Customers can zip round in cars like the BMW 1 Series or the Volkswagen T cross. The Sixt rental office at Ace Airport received a score of 7.1 out of 10 based on customer reviews on RentalCars.com. The agency seemed to get high praise in everything apart from its location, which is a ten minute shuttle ride from the terminal. Of course, Sixt provides this shuttle service for free.
Best for Minivans: Hertz
Hertz is a great option for families looking for a cheap car hire to use to explore this part of Spain. Parents with tired kids will appreciate the speed of pick up when they book a reservation with Hertz. Their counter is located within metres of the arrival gate in the arrivals lobby of Terminal 1. Hertz offers highly practical, French-made vehicles like the compact`Peugeot Partner and the spacious Renault Espace. For really large families who need extra seating and space, Hertz also offers the Renault Escenic, the slightly larger sister to the Espace.
