Officially, Sweden’s fourth busiest airport, MMX lies 30km east of Malmo and about 60km from Copenhagen. Therefore, renting a car at Malmö Airport makes perfect sense for those wanting to explore this part of southern Sweden with a side trip to Copenhagen thrown in.

If you’re landing at Malmo’s Airport (MMX) and looking for a rental car, there are seven companies to choose from: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Mabi, Sixt and Thrifty.
Thankfully, renting a car at MMX couldn’t be easier. Not only are the rental car counters easy to locate, next to the multi-storey carpark, but all the staff here speak impeccable English.
To determine which rental car companies offer the best vehicles across our three categories (Most Affordable, Best for Luxury, Best for Minivans), TravelMag.com carefully researched prices, availability, policies and customer reviews of the 12 car rental companies operating out of MMX. Here are our findings:
Most Affordable: Avis
Avis, not known generally to have the cheapest rental cars in the market, offers the best value for money at MMX. Moreover, Avis is the second highest-ranked car rental company at Malmo Airport with users commenting positively on the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, the ease of drop-off and the cleanliness and condition of its vehicles. When we researched over the Christmas period, there were a number of interesting economy vehicles at excellent rates. For example, we found a Fiat 500 and a Peugeot 208 at €68 and €72 per day respectively.
Best for Luxury: Sixt
Sixt’s selection of luxury cars is considerably better than any of the other car rental company’s at MMX. Sixt’s fleet includes a number of series from BMW (X1, X3 X5) and various sedans from Mercedes Benz which are all perfect for cruising the local motorways. On the whole, Sixt’s rates aren’t cheap, but the base price includes a collision damage waiver, theft protection and the knowledge that the car will be have been well maintained.
Best for Minivans: Sixt
We found the choice of minivans to be slightly disappointing at MMX airport. However, out of all the options, Sixt appeared to be the best. First of all, Sixt receives the highest user feedback ranking on popular car rental site, rentalcars.com with customers especially impressed by their drop-off and pick-up speed (10/10 for them both!!) and overall customer service. In its fleet, they have the 9-seater Volkswagen Caravelle, the classy Mercedes Benz V and a large selection of SUVs as a back up giving families of all sizes a choice of options.
