With its pleasant climate and delicious food, Montgomery, the old southern city of Alabama, is the state’s second most populous state. It’s famous for its bean soup, red eye gravy and Rosa Parks, the African American woman who changed America’s history by refusing to travel at the end of a bus. Slightly north of Montgomery lies Prattville, a small, leafy suburb nicknamed “The Fountain City” due to the many artesian wells and a popular golf destination, featuring the Capitol Hill and Senator Golf Course – a regular feature on the LPGA Tour.

Montgomery Airport: Dollar

Out of the several car rental companies operating out of Montgomery airport, we chose Dollar as the best option. On the dates we looked at, Dollar had some exceptional deals on a Nissan Versa and Toyota Corolla; both cars being $22 per day and only rising to $33 per day to include unlimited mileage. Before booking at Dollar, it’s worth noting that they have certain restrictions regarding the use of debit cards on the rentals of convertibles and premium cars and that a $200 deposit is required on all rentals. Open Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.

Downtown Montgomery: Enterprise

Located in the heart of downtown Montgomery, Enterprise comes out on top when it comes to finding value for money, especially in the economy category. If there are a number of you, Enterprise also has a large selection of stylish hatchbacks and vans on its parking lot. Customers are quick to point out that cars are consistently delivered clean and well-maintained, but the over-riding positive feedback is focused on the politeness and professionalism of the staff. It’s opening hours are 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 12pm Saturday (Sunday closed).

Prattville: Avis

Budget, part of the Avis and Payless chain of car rentals compa-nies, offer a great choice of cheap car hire, regularly delivering good value for money. Among the compact and most af-fordable cars in their fleet, you’ll find the Toyota Yari, the Kia Soul and the Ford Fiesta, all of which cost between $22-25 per day on our sample dates. Renting cars is relatively inexpen-sive in this part of the world, so if you’ve ever dreamt of cruising highways in bigger wheels, this is definitely the area to do it in. Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 8am – 6pm, Satur-days 8am – 4pm; Sunday 9am – 4pm.
