Wiesen

If you were to unknowingly amble past Wiesen Restaurant, there’d be little to hint at the culinary magic going on behind its inconspicuous façade. Situated on Eindhoven’s bustling Kleine Berg street, this is perhaps the city’s biggest fine dining secret – until now. Amid an elegant but cosy setting, chef Yuri Wiesen’s concocts a steady stream of French-inspired masterpieces that showcase an artful mix of classic techniques and global ingredients. Menu highlights include Eastern Scheldt lobster paired with al dente asparagus and sea lavender, and for something sweet, a coupe Romanoff sundae made with the freshest strawberries.

Housed in a converted chapel on the eastern banks of the River Dommel, you could say that Restaurant Goyvaerts serves up food from heaven – literally and metaphorically. Helmed by there culinary brothers, each with their own Michelin-worthy chops, this acclaimed French-inspired fine dining restaurant has the look and feel of a modern-day monastery, but with a seriously cool wine cabinet and dishes that’ll have you praising the lord. As for what to order, patrons wax lyrical over the braised veal cheeks with mojo rojo and – for veggies – the celeriac glazed with soy sauce.

Eindhoven also has plenty of spots where food plays second fiddle to drinks, and one of the city’s best watering holes is The Little One – said to be Eindhoven’s oldest and smallest pub.. Nestled just off the bustling market square, there’s space for just over 30 people, ensuring it’s always pleasantly crowded without being over-bearing. There are no flashy lights, karaoke or ear-splitting music, either – instead you’ll discover a warm atmosphere, friendly bartenders and a collection of spirits that makes choosing your tipple a real challenge. The eclectic mix of clientele adds to its charm, and the quirky interior, featuring musical instruments, soft toys, and agricultural tools, gives it the look and feel of a home away from home.
