When it comes to learning German, the German capital offers plenty of choice in terms of courses, cost and extra-curricular activities. With such a variety of options available, it can be a little overwhelming to decide where to start, so we’ve done some of the hard work for you by selecting five of the best language schools in Berlin, taking into account former student reviews, cost and programmes available.

Teachers foster a productive and supportive learning atmosphere, helping create a close-knit community of students who practice together, learn from each other and often stay in touch even after the course has ended. Intensive courses are available for all levels and allow students to learn the respective A levels in just two weeks and the B levels in just three weeks, each requiring 20 sessions of 45-minute lessons per week. Alternatively, there are evening courses encompassing two lessons per week that free you up during the day.

Sprachinstitut Berlin

Sprachinstitut offer a diverse range of German language courses, as well as English language programmes, at its school in the bustling Berlin-Mitte area. Courses vary in intensity, duration, and level, with classes taught at absolute beginner to advanced. There are semi-intensive and intensive courses, evening classes and exam prep courses, as well as conversational classes and grammar workshops. Through an initial language assessment test, your German level will be determined so that you can be placed in the appropriate programme. All lessons are taught by fully qualified teachers, native to the language. Classes are kept small, with an average of eight students per lesson, to allow teachers to focus on individual needs. The school also assists students in finding accommodation in the city, either in a homestay or local apartment.

Located near to Berlin’s vibrant Alexanderplatz, Kapitel Zwei offer German courses all year round to those looking to enhance their language skills. Classes are kept to a maximum of 12 students, which previous students have praised for the personalised approach it enables. Students can book German courses as intensive or semi-intensive programmes with additional modules in grammar, conversation or pronunciation training also available. Classes are offered at beginner through to advanced level, with exam preparation courses offered to those at an intermediate and advanced level.
