Whether it is the famous Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the 50,000sqm Plaça de Catalunya, or the buzzing La Rambla, Barcelona is a place that is full of iconic, must-see spots. As with most European cities it can be hard work negotiating the crowds and public transport, which often means you end up missing out on a lot of things you want to see. Hop-on, hop-off buses may seem a bit touristy but they are the best way to navigate the city with the option to jump off and explore at your leisure. Here are four of the best in Barcelona.

Barcelona: City Sightseeing Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

This is a classic hop-on, hop-off city tour, taking in the main sites of Barcelona. There are two routes to choose from – red or blue – and 34 stops in total. You drive past the main points of interest, passing the Gothic Qarter, La Rambla, Sagrada Familia, and the Picasso Museum, with the option to get off and explore at leisure. There are two tickets available, either 24 or 48 hours, and an audio guide with headphones is included, as well as Wi-Fi onboard and a Barcelona city map. You even get a discount booklet for local attractions, eateries, and shopping. From €33.00.

Both routes are available with the same ticket, and there is an option for either 24 or 48 hours. The routes take around two hours to complete if you stay on the bus. The buses have an open top and an electric roof that can retract in the event of rain. The ticket also includes an audio guide in 15 languages, as well as a city map with a detailed guide of the routes and their stops. From €33.00.

Not many double decker bus rides include a stop for a sailing cruise along the way – but this one does. Choose from two different routes included in your 24-hour or 48-hour ticket and explore the city and all its landmarks along the way. Get off on stop four or five of the West route (orange) or stop 3-Port Vell of the East route (green) to join a 60-minute catamaran cruise or the premium 90-minute ride on a Turkish Gulet. From the water you’ll get to experience Barcelona from a whole new perspective, taking in monuments such as the World Trade Center and the largest yachts in the city. A good value tour. From €44.00.
