The rectangular shaped pool is illuminated by overhead lighting, while the sparkling lights of New York’s skyscrapers flickering in the distance can be seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows that fringe one side of the pool. Courtyard by Marriot

You’ll often have to pay top dollar for a city hotel with its own pool, but the mid-range Courtyard by Marriot bucks that trend. Set on the ground floor of the hotel, the large indoor pool is flanked by comfortable seating areas where guests can relax after a leisurely dip or some hard-yard lengths. Large French windows look out onto a leafy communal outdoor area and through an adjoining room guests will find a fitness centre. The pool’s hours are 6.30am to 10.30pm from Monday to Friday, with a slightly earlier opening time on weekends. Rooms from $158 per night.
