The Caribbean island of Grenada has seen its accommodation offerings burgeon in recent decades, with major investment leading to the construction of several luxury resorts.

Comprising a main island and several smaller surrounding islands, Grenada has for many years lived in the shadows of its more famous regional counterparts when it comes to tourist – but that has begun to change in more recent times. Significant infrastructure projects have included the introduction of numerous high-end hotels and resort complexes which have helped visitors numbers swell. We’ve compared some of Grenada’s best luxury resorts below.

Sandals Grenada

Situated in a secluded spot in the far southwest corner of Grenada, this couples-only, all-inclusive resort offers distinctively designed guest rooms, a wide choice of dining, and an achingly romantic atmosphere. Spread over 17 acres of manicured grounds, the property sits at one end of an unspoiled, cliff-backed beach with panoramic views up the coast. Rooms are spread over four ‘villages’ and come with mahogany furnishings, colourful prints and marble bathrooms. Some rooms have tubs on their terraces or balconies, and there are suites with infinity-edge plunge pools and access to butlers dressed in waistcoats and bow ties. As well as pools and communal hot tubs, there’s a gym, a spa, beach and pool volleyball, tennis courts, and a watersports centre. From $500 per night.

For a more boutique resort experience, this collection of stylish villas set in mature, tropical gardens and flanked by small sandy beaches may well fit the bill. Nestled in a tranquil spot on an upscale residential peninsula in the south of the main island, it offers sublime views across a bay and direct waterfront access. The eight cream-coloured, shingle-roofed villas are dotted with pristinely maintained shrubs and flower beds, and inside they boast an upbeat contemporary look and feel. The standout villa has floor-to-ceiling glass walls on two sides, an outdoor kitchen on a large deck and a plunge pool. In terms of communal facilities, there’s an infinity-edge swimming pool, and kayaks, paddleboards and snorkels are available to use for free. From $666 per night.

Royalton Grenada

The largest resort hotel anywhere on the island, the all-inclusive Royalton Grenada – situated very close to the main airport as well as an idyllic sandy beach – is a favoured pick for those keen to go extra large when it comes to amenities. It’s sheer scale is also ideal for anyone seeking anonymity, with guests able to blend in effortlessly and little chance of winding up next to the same people at dinner or around the pool. A choice of five restaurants and six bars ensure you’ll never get tired of the on-site hospitality, either. Other facilities include a garden, a terrace, tennis courts, a kids’ club, 24-hour front desk, and concierge services. Guests arriving in their own transport can also make use of free private parking. From $405 per night.

Six Senses La Sagesse

Get back to nature at this inconspicuous hideaway located on a long crescent of golden sand along Grenada’s southern coast. Featuring just 12 rooms, the low-key resort has virtually no other signs of human habitation within miles, giving guests a sense of true isolation. The horseshoe-shaped La Sagesse Bay is nearby, and a section of beach in front of the property is shaded by curving palm trees. Paths lead off through the surrounding land, and birdwatching can be arranged with resort staff. Guest rooms are adorned with local art work, a fridge and tea/coffee-makers. Some of the room have terraces, close enough – almost – to the ocean for waves to lap against them. Meals are served in an open-air wooden structure right behind the beach. If you’re missing the hustle and bustle, Grand Anse, the tourist centre of the island, is a 30-minute drive away. From $609 per night.
