Mexico’s Los Cabos region is lauded for its sun, sea and sand, so it’s only natural that tours offering thrilling adventure sports such as parasailing can be readily found there too.

Parasailing, or parakiting as it’s sometimes known, is one of the best, most accessible ways to get up into the air without needing much know-how or expertise. Harnessed into a special parachute-like canopy that’s attached to a speedboat, you’ll lift gently into the air as the wind catches the fabric. This is especially worthwhile along stunning stretches of coastline, like that of Mexico’s Baja California. Particularly around Cabo San Lucas, there are some excellent parasailing adventures to be had – and here are five of the best.

Parasailing in Los Cabos

This parasailing experience departs from Cabo San Lucas with Gray Line Los Cabos. You’ll head out onto the open water and then let the wind do the rest, soaring up to 600 feet in the air above Los Cabos. This offers an excellent view of the arid, rocky shoreline, and open ocean, making the most of the area’s almost year-round clear weather. You’ll enjoy around ten minutes in the air, with the rest of the trip spent safe and dry in the boat. From $80 per person.

This 1 to 2.5-hour excursion takes in a bird’s-eye view of Land’s End, Medano Beach and Cabo San Lucas Bay as you float gently above these renowned places of interest. After motoring out by boat through Cabo harbor and into the bay you’ll be fitted with a harness and asked to wait your turn. On command, you’ll adopt your position before your boat speeds up and nature takes its course, leaving you to soak up the magical experience of soaring up to 600 feet in the air. Once you’ve come back down to earth – or water, to be precise – you’ll have the option of taking a well-earned quick dip in the bay before the tour comes to a close. From $128 per person.

Cabo San Lucas Bay Parasailing

Families, friends and couples might want to check out this option, where you can fly either solo or with one other person. As with all tour operators on this list, you’ll head out onto Cabo San Lucas Bay, which enjoys some of the best views around. For a safe flight, participants must weigh 120-550lbs (54-249kgs), which is a nice, broad range for two people or solo flights. However, children may be too light to travel alone. This tour runs four times a day from Monday to Saturday. From $80 per person.

Aires Water Sports offer an added dimension to their parasailing adventures: a chance to enjoy a swim in the Sea of Cortez. While most tours  ensure that you leave and return to the boat when parasailing without ever touching the water, on this tour you can unharness after your flight and dive straight into the shimmering sea. Similar to other tours on this list, you’ll get to spend around ten minutes up in the sky, admiring the natural beauty of Baja California before the boat slows and the staff reel you back in. From $85 per person.

Single or Double Parasailing in Cabo

Another great option for couples and groups of up to two people leaves from the Cabo San Lucas Marina. See landmarks such as the Arch of Cabo San Lucas from the air, along with Lover’s Beach, the Sea of Cortez and other landforms of Los Cabos. This adventure lasts around 90 minutes in total, with roughly ten minutes of time up in the air for a flight with two people. However, this option allows solo flyers up to 15 minutes in the air, making the extra cost all the more worthwhile. From $111 per person.
