Prague is a city full of culture, restaurants, bars and museums – but you may want to head towards the sky for a unique perspective on the city.

Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, is a great place for food and drink. Whether it is one of the city’s authentic dive bars, one of the top restaurants or cocktail bars, or just enjoying a trdelnik with a coffee, refreshments are never far away. Perhaps lesser known is that Prague, also known as a the city of a thousand spires for its pointed buildings that rise above the skyline, has a great selection of sky bars and restaurants where you can get a unique panorama. TravelMag searched out the best rooftop bars and restaurants in Prague and this is what we found.

Fly Vista

The views from the Observation Terrace are some of the best in Prague. At 40 metres above ground, the viewing point offers 360-degree vistas of the Czech capital. It’s worth noting you do need to purchase a ticket to go up to the Observation Terrace, but you can also head to the Fly Vista rooftop bar and restaurant to enjoy the cityscape over breakfast, lunch, or dinner, whether it’s kicking off the day with eggs Benedict or finishing off with grilled octopus or tagliatelle with black truffle. Also worth noting that the Champagne Bar has 100 different varieties to choose from and there are also DJs, parties and even free mimosas offered with breakfast. Fly Vista also has some unique claims to fame – namely the biggest ice bucket and the longest marble bar in Central Europe.

Cloud 9 Sky Bar & Lounge

The Cloud 9 Sky Bar opened in 2008 but is already something of a Prague institution. Located 40 meters above the Vltava river on the rooftop of Hilton Prague, the bar has views of the city in every direction. The drinks menu is vast – it would be hard for even the fussiest of customers not to find something to enjoy – and there is a range of cocktails that include both classics and signature offerings. Highlights include the Bohemiam Legacy, a cocktail that combines single malt whiskey with semi-dark beer foam, and the Charisma, which features Absolut vodka infused with pepper. There is plenty of padded, comfy seating at the Cloud 9 Sky Bar so having plenty of selection is a good thing – you may be here a while.

Balcony Bar

Balcony Bar is located right in the centre of Prague and overlooks the elegant main street of Narodní třída and the National Theatre. The main indoor bar area has a interesting blend of classic period features and a contemporary industrial aesthetic and the terrace runs around the edge, rather than being perched on top. There is a good range of upmarket fizz on offer, as well as cocktails, with a range of authentic Spanish tapas also served. Balcony Bar works well as an evening destination or a launchpad for a night on the tiles in Prague – just be sure to book a place on the terrace if you want to sit outside.

Terasa U Prince

Terasa U Prince is a rooftop bar where you really feel like you are on top of the old town of Prague. Found at the peak of Hotel U Prince and a few steps from the  600-year-old Astronomical Clock, this terrace bar and grill has hard-to-beat views of the Old Town Square and is a good option for food and cocktails, especially if you are looking for something romantic. The Terasa U Prince even features its own Instagram spot (in social media parle:  #bubblepointview) an acute point in the terrace with the square as a backdrop – perfect for grabbing a mojito and making your friends jealous.

Pytloun Sky Bar

The 150 sqm Pytloun Sky Bar & Restaurant Prague is found on the rooftop of the prestigious Talíř restaurant and is open from 8:00 am to midnight (although it is worth checking the website). It is smart and sophisticated but avoids being too bling in its approach, with comfortable seating and umbrellas for when the sun is out. There are live music performances and DJs (mostly at the weekends) and the drinks menu has signature cocktails. The menu is a mixture of grill classics and Czech specialities. Views from the bar and restaurant include Prague Castle, Franciscan Garden, Wenceslas Square and a panorama of the whole city.

Střecha Radost

Built in 1934, Radost House is the first skyscraper in Prague – and on the roof is one of the city’s best sky bars. This is slightly less formal than a lot of the sky bars and restaurants, with artificial grass and a laid-back vibe. Events are diverse, with everything from pub quizzes to rooftop cinemas to DJ sets and the roof is only open in the summer – it’s worth checking the website for details. This is a quirky and cool spot, with great views over the city, and is something of a hidden gem in the city. The bar is located a short walk from Prague’s main station.
