Vienna’s historic Spanish Riding School is a must-see attraction when visiting the Austrian capital.
Founded back in the 16th century, the Spanish Riding School in Vienna has been operating for more than 450 years and is famous for its Lipizzaner horses, a breed which dates back to 1580. At the school stallions are reared and trained using classical horsemanship, a traditional way of breeding, training and riding Lipizanners which can even be found on UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The horses are best seen during one of the school’s performances but for an in-depth look into the Spanish Riding School’s long and rich history it’s best to book a behind-the-scenes tour to find out more.
