Founded back in the 16th century, the Spanish Riding School in Vienna has been operating for more than 450 years and is famous for its Lipizzaner horses, a breed which dates back to 1580. At the school stallions are reared and trained using classical horsemanship, a traditional way of breeding, training and riding Lipizanners which can even be found on UNESCO’s Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage. After going to visit the Lipizzaner stallions in the Stallburg your guide will take you to admire the interiors of the Winter Riding School before you climb more than 170 steps to reach the attic, where the 250-year-old wooden Baroque roof construction comes with views of Vienna’s Old Town.
